Ok I'm going to show you how I do manes, I'm not the best but it may help you. I have two methods I use somethimes.
Method one:
Ok starting with the forelock for a BLACK horse.
Select black colour and make sure you have the paintbrush on. First add strands of 40% opacity and size 3:
Then go through on 60 opacity and size 3 leaving some parts still lighter:
Now on 100% strength, go over again, with size 3 brush
Now take this smudge brush at 80% strength
Now smudge the colours together, make sure to only go one way, like brushing hair. Then smudge lightly at the corners to make it "fluffy"
And that is method one...maybe it turned out a bit to light for a black horse.....the second method is better for fixing that. I'll post the second method soon
