omg dodolina that is amazing! this is my first time entering, and its not going to well. i was wondering if anyone coud please give me some tips on what im doing wrong?


or even some links to some good tutorials would be helpful. i love the way regan and dodolina have such smooth shading, as seen above i am having a bit of trouble with that.

Cherry1423, I love the black horse, but I actually like the purple background better. My tip for making it even better would be study the musculature on random photos of moving horses. They are made up of more than just three roundish segments.
Pxehorse, there are some fantastic tutorials on this site. If you have a program with the smudge tool, you can get that smooth blended look.

Yup- I only use GIMP. It has a smudge tool- the little hand.

thanks so much for the help everyone, i found one on regans gimp tutorials and it helped a lot. i still dont like my coat, i love the mane and tail, but the coat just seems wrong. maybe its the wrong colours?

ya wrong colors, and needs to be cleaned up a little..otherwise great

those colors will work, just blend a little more. Experiment with different brush shapes for the smudge. Also, it may help if you pick one point in the distance as the light source, and try to base all the shadow and highlight off of light coming from that direction.

Yeah- color is fine, smudging needs a little help, and it needs to be cleaned up a tad- but that's pretty good! I also find putting the Blur and Sharpen tool on Blur at 100% rate and going over it all, or certain areas makes it look nice also.

Oh and the head is very nice! The main and tail are nice, too!

wow, very nice Pxehorse!!! I think you should modify a lil bit the eye, and make the nostril and the mouth darker, too look deeper...But it's awesome!!!

i have good news and bad news.
good news is i ordered a graphic tablet! no more numb finger from doing painting on laptop mouse!
bad news is i dropped my laptop and the battery fell out, so im either going to have to send it off to get fixed, coz of course ive slacked off with my backing up, or i will just have to restore it to factory settings. at the moment the latter looks like its going to be the way to go so i might lose all my work
i may not be able to post anything other than writing for a few days as obviously, i cant use my computer, this is my mums.
